Flowers are the main attraction in our garden every year. This year called for an experiment: a vegetable garden. Basically, twenty packages of seeds were purchased and we'll see what grows. Next year I may get fancy & join a seed exchange- they are sprouting up all over the city.

My mom has been making these since I was little.  Though the methods (started using Real Eggs, no joke- now uses the pro system) have evolved throughout the years, one thing remains the same--- I love these things & so do my kids.

Here’s a low-fi way to collect sap from your own backyard!

Our family attended, with baby in tow-- a tree tapping demo at MOCAD years ago-- but my dreams were dashed because it seemed so involved + technical that I gave up all hope of collecting sap at home. Until today.

Kids Craft | Tin Can Telephones

Remember playing telephone when you were little? A rainy day is a great time to create these nostalgic gems. They are durable & can be played with indoors or outside. Great for covert ops in the treetops.

Ingredients:
2 Tin Cans
Hammer & Nail
String [Kite String or Fishing Line = optimal]

Have your helper rescue two cans from the recycling bin. Puncture the end of the cans by driving the nail through the bottom of the can with a hammer. Grab some string from the kite you flew last week. Determine the desired length & cut. Push the string through the bottom of one can, knot the string. Pull the remainder through. Now on to the next one. Pull the string through the second can, knotting the end. Now like Ma Bell- you got the Ill Communication.
