Chinese New Year is a festival of great importance in China and in other countries that have large Chinese populations. It is a traditional holiday celebrated annually to mark the beginning of a new year. Each year correlates with a different animal. 2015 marks the "Year of the Sheep". The occasion is celebrated in a variety of ways, such as spending time with friends and family.
My favorite way to commemorate the event is to catch the Dragon Dance at the DIA. The program is part of the museum’s Family Sundays. This annual tradition takes place in the main hall. The dance is performed by talented members of the Asian Martial Arts Studio.

*Rockstar* Tip: Arrive early to score a prime spot (if you want to sit down instead of stand). Guess what, if you don't get there early- which, less face it, is sometimes not happenin'- I have noticed that the crowd is really courteous and will graciously make room in the front so children can see.
re: the parking situ. Metered spots are gone in a flash! Park in the Wayne State garage located on Woodward, it’s a short walk to the museum. Also, this popular event gets packed, so leave your coats at the coat check so the kids don't overheat. Nothing worse than a hot kid reminding you every three seconds exactly how hot they are.
