Click your heels three times and you will be transported to the End of the Rainbow, surrounded by cupcakes. Well, not really, but you could be in a short time, because these treats are a snap to make. After you pop these out of the oven, be sure to head over to the Redford Theatre today, where the historical landmark is hosting two showings of the iconic film, "Wizard of Oz."

Horse Cupcakes

5/8/2014

On the heels of the Kentucky Derby- which I will score tickets to someday + to further explore the Merry-Go-Round theme- let's go off to the races with some horse cupcakes.

Not going to lie- they are kind of time consuming to make and my mom totally helped me with them- because you def need two hands, + an extended timeframe to allow them to set. And yes- your kids can help- but only with certain parts- like putting on the tail. And kind of like the Kentucky Derby- there is a ton of preparation involved for a two minute race to the finish- which in this case is a children's birthday party.

Once upon a time, we made the modern version of botanical easter eggs using regular dyes. Today we bring you the real deal for your egg-dyeing enjoyment.

My daughter asked my gma if we could dye eggs using her traditional onion peel and plant clipping method. So, without further ado, here is the process that will yield shiny brown eggs with a unique design.

These sweet little nests are perfect for spring, and can be filled with Easter candy that will probably be making its way into your home in obscene amounts. Toddlers and big kids can definitely help with this edible project. Drop some off at the easter open house, and keep a tray for an afternoon treat little bunnies can munch on.

Field Trip | The Notorious P.A.C.zki Day in Hamtramck

3/4/2014

So ya wanna be hardcore? Go to Hamtramck for your paczki.

The Hamtramck paczki scene is one from which legends are born. Detroiters stand in line with their salted boots, bundled up with scarves and mittens, as television crews interview those waiting their turn to order their Polish treat. It is the heavyweight championship of the world- Hamtramck style, where only the hardcore survi- I mean- eat paczki.

Those [two] boxes of paczki from the grocery store I paraded on instagram were only a countdown to the main event, a 'warm-up,' if you will. So this morning, everyone bundled up and we hit Hamtramck.

Marshmallow Igloo

When I was six, we made an igloo in the yard one snowy winter. It was big enough that four of us could fit inside. We hung photos inside on the walls and I pretended there was a tiny fire where we could roast marshmallows, the swirls of smoke swirling out of the non-existent chimney.

I don't enjoy spending hours outside in the cold anymore, especially surrounded by snow. But I still love igloos. So yesterday, as the snow fell outside, we had an awesome time making an igloo inside.

Baby, it's cold outside = the understatement of the century! Where does that leave you when the kids are begging to play outside when the temperature hits 15 below?

Take the doldrums outta winter and go camping. Although my daughter loved it, I Do Not enjoy sleeping in subzero temps- AT ALL- so, we settled on indoor camping this time.
