Field Trip | Detroit Zoo

Take a walk on the wild side at the Detroit Zoo. Now IS the perfect time to go on a family field trip! Perfect for all ages- stroll the babies and let those toddlers toddle- there's plenty of room for them to explore.

Filled with over 3,000+ animals- there's a chance for everyone to catch a glimpse of their favorite at the Detroit Zoo. Kids will love petting a "real" giraffe skin (it is real, but not actually on the giraffe) seeing the polar bears in their icy abode and watching the otters and their shenanigans.

But wait- There's More! Click 'Read More' to get the full scoop...         ↓↓↓
Other features include a carousel with an array of colorful animals, a train that meanders throughout the premises and a playground. You heard that right- the piece de resistance of the zoo is a playground- kids love it. I have to admit, it is actually one of the best playgrounds around- I just think it's humorous that even if we're on vacation that's really what the kids- all age ranges- go gaga over. When you see it- you'll see what I'm talking about.

While you're there- be sure to check out the amazing architecture found throughout the grounds of the zoo. There's an amazing 'Bear' Fountain by Parducci, a 'spitting' frog water feature and an Aviary designed by famed architect Albert Kahn- both the building + the butterflies are awesome! Don't forget the gazelle and baboon sculptures + the prehistoric pterodactyl by Marshall M. Fredericks- some of my favorite pieces- totally in L-O-V-E with them.
Lions and Tigers and Beer, oh my! Head over to the Detroit Zoo on September 26 for their annual beer bash. The Zoo Brew is an annual beer festival that encourages attendees to walk and talk with the animals while enjoying a frosty adult beverage!

Celebrate the evening with polar bears, flamingos and primates while sipping on over 80 varieties of beer made by local artisan breweries from around the state. Live bands will provide music and a tram will provide a guided tour around the grounds.

Additional fun includes an exclusive talk with a zookeeper and access to special habitats at twilight. Every guest will receive tasting tickets that will allow them to sample 12 types of craft beer. This popular event sells out quickly, so don’t wait to order tickets.
*RockStar Tip* If you're on the prowl for another awesome spot in the area where kids will love to play- check out the playscape at the Henry Ford Museum + Greenfield Village. Just go- you'll see! [it's Glorious w/a capital G]

If your heading to Upstate New York to catch the brilliant bursts of fall foliage, definitely check out the playscape at The Story Garden at Ross Park Zoo in Binghamton, NY. It is the stuff dreams are made of. Again- seeing is believing!
