If you found us through the CBS Detroit article featuring the most amazing unusual museums in Detroit- welcome! For more ideas about activities and events for kids in Detroit, [+ nationwide] subscribe to Monkeys Tales or follow Monkeys & Mayhem on twitter.
Step into an enchanted wonderland filled with fortune tellers, antique arcade games and coin-operated amusements at Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum. The carnival-esque atmosphere is infamous for it's approach to old-fashioned entertainment.

This space is packed with one discovery after the other. Every inch is covered with an unusual display, a rare poster or something unexpected hanging from the ceiling. There are machines that move, rides that entertain and prizes galore. This museum also features a snack enclave that has concession-stand treats like cotton candy, popcorn and hot dogs.

But wait- There's More! Click 'Read More' to get the full scoop...         ↓↓↓
Bring some quarters to play the massive selection of games. There is a miniature carousel to ride, rows of pinballs machines to play and mechanical scenes that unfold before your eyes- there is even a collection of animatronic mannequins that move.

We went on a weekend in March to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Guess who else's birthday it was? Marvin Yagoda's- the owner of the museum! He has been collecting these unusual pieces for over 50 years, and, from the looks of it, loves his work.

Our time spend at Marvin's was one of the highlights of the weekend, and turned a drab, frigid day into a festive and fun event. Now is the perfect time to take the kids- while spring showers pour down or when the snow is falling. Yes- I said it, snow. It's STILL snowing in the midwest.
Check out this list I compiled of even more unusual places your kids will LOVE!
